Hillerman's novels skillfully weave together intricate plots, vivid descriptions of Southwestern landscapes, and authentic portrayals of Navajo traditions and beliefs. With a keen eye for detail and a deep respect for Native American culture, she explores the complexities of her characters' lives while delving into contemporary issues facing the Navajo people.

Hillerman is a native of Santa Fe and Albuquerque. She published her first novel in 2013, Spider Woman’s Daughter, which continued the adventures of Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito, characters created by her father, Tony Hillerman. Dark Winds, the new television series on AMC, is based on stories that Anne and her father, Tony Hillerman, created. Her eighth mystery, The Way of the Bear, was released earlier this year.

Dr. Kevin Beardmore, Southeast New Mexico College President, stated, “Having any New York Times best-selling author visit your college is an honor. It is a distinct privilege to have New Mexico's own Anne Hillerman come and join us for this event.”

Through her writing, Anne Hillerman continues to contribute to the literary landscape, offering not only gripping mysteries but also insights into the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo Nation. Her commitment to honoring her father's legacy while forging her own path has solidified her place as a respected and influential author in the mystery genre.

A selection of   Anne Hillerman’s books will be available for purchase in the SENMC Bookstore before and after the event.
